Williams fit to face Lions

All Blacks centre Sonny Bill Williams has been declared fit for the Blues’ clash with the British and Irish Lions in Auckland.

Williams passed fitness tests on his knee following Monday’s main training session and Tuesday’s Captain’s Run and will start at inside centre for the Blues.

Blues assistant coach Alistair Rogers confirmed that Williams will be ready for action and that he will form a midfield combination with George Moala.

“Sonny has come through really well,” he told Stuff.

“He came through yesterday pretty good. When he cooled down last night he was feeling really good and he looked very fresh out there this morning.

“We’re please he’s in and look forward to seeing him go.”

Rogers said they expect Williams to be at his best against the Lions.

“The key thing for Sonny is he comes with a certain skillset and attributes and we want to see that, as long as it sticks within what we’re trying to achieve and the patterns we’re trying to play,” he added.

“His communication is very good and brings a lot of comfort to those around him.

“We just want to see the simple things, but the simple things done extremely well.”
